FOUR senior officers from various government departments participated in an international disaster risk workshop to enhance Fiji's risk reduction plans.

Present at the third session of the Committee on Disaster Risk Reduction in Bangkok were Fiji's High Commissioner in Malaysia Pita Tagicakirewa, director National Disaster Management Office Manasa Tagicakibau, principal economic planning officer at the Ministry of Strategic Planning Anare Leweniqila and senior economic planning officer at the Ministry of Finance Mosese Ravasakula.

The meeting, held at the UNESCAP head office in Bangkok, educated participants on the need to be informed of solutions that will help risk reductions during natural hazards.

"The committee discussed how recent events such as the devastating Super Typhoon Haiyan highlighted the interlinked economic, social and environmental impacts of natural disasters and the need for equally comprehensive solutions," a Ministry of Information statement said.
