FARMERS and villagers in Ra have been encouraged to plant more vegetables in an effort to reduce government spending on imports.
Ra provincial administrator Sitiveni Tavaga said the government had allocated $250,000 for the purchase of machinery and land preparation at Mataso Valley.
He said the concept of the project was similar to the development of Sigatoka Valley as the Salad Bowl.
"This is also a good time for farmers in the area to make good use of their lands," said Mr Tavaga.
"This project will be known as the Sigavou Valley Development program to be situated at Mataso, Tova and Matawailevi valley."
