Boxing title

FRANKFURT - Vitali Klitschko has vacated his world heavyweight title and says he doesn't expect to fight again as he concentrates on Ukrainian politics and his role as an opposition leader. The World Boxing Council yesterday proclaimed Klitschko a "Champion Emeritus".

Rugby deal

LONDON - British and Irish Lions hooker Richard Hibbard will join Gloucester from Ospreys next season, the English Premiership side announced yesterday. The 30-year-old Welshman follows in the footsteps of New Zealand prop John Afoa, who is also due to link up with Gloucester next season.

Defiant King

SYDNEY - Richmond AFL player Jake King has defied club orders to end his association with former Bandidos boss Toby Mitchell. The Tigers could hit the 29-year-old King with fines or suspensions, only months after ordering him to cut ties with Mitchell.

Coach dies

MOSCOW - Officials in a Siberian province say a veteran wrestling coach has died of a heart attack after taking part in the Sochi Olympics torch relay. Authorities in the Kurgan region said 73-year old Vadim Gorbenko died on Monday after carrying the Olympic flame.
