ACTING Commissioner of Police Ravi Narayan yesterday directed the Director Criminal Investigations to personally head and conduct a thorough investigation into the case of Sereima Degei — the young girl of Nabouciwa, Tailevu, who was found hanging from a tree beside her home in September 2007.
This follows the finding of an inquest made by Nausori magistrate Charles Ratakele who ruled out suicide as the cause of death.
Mr Ratakele ruled the 13-year-old young girl was murdered.
"A parallel investigation will be conducted into how the initial investigation was conducted and where police failed to establish whether an offence was committed," police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro added.
She said the investigation would be led by force Inspector General ACP Isikeli Vuniwaqa.
"To uphold the integrity of the investigation, no further comments will be made on the matter until it's completed."
She said the directive was to "finalise the matter as soon as practicable".
