WATCHING his father prepare breakfast and lunch for him and his siblings each morning before leaving for work was something that motivated Manish Kumar to study hard.

It was this image that kept Mr Kumar going during his three-years of study at the Sangam College of Nursing in Labasa.

Mr Kumar, whose mother left the family when he was in primary school, was on cloud nine as his dreams of helping his father came true last Friday when he graduated with a Diploma in Nursing Certificate at Labasa's Civic Centre.

Mr Kumar also scooped the awards for the highest aggregate in integrated nursing paper two and overall best student.

"I just decided to study hard to help my father who single-handedly raised us," he said.

"He struggled to put food on the table and also to send us to school. This is something that motivated me to become a successful person in life.

"I am greatly indebted to him and now that I have graduated, I hope to be a source of blessing for my family.

"I am also happy about my achievement because I received two awards, something I also worked for through my studies."

Mr Kumar thanked his dad, his girlfriend and his relatives who supported him throughout his studies.

Proud father Manoj Kumar said his struggles and hard work had finally paid off.

"It's a relief for me to see my son graduate and I also want to thank him for studying hard in school," said the security officer.
