POLICE officers in the Northern Division have increased their visibility this festive season.
This newspaper witnessed officers in Labasa, Seaqaqa and Savusavu carrying out patrols on 12-hour shifts.
Divisional police commander Northern SSP Naulumatua Lutunacaucau said last week that they had strategies for their operations.
"Increasing our visibilities in urban, peri-urban and rural areas is our focus during this busy period," he said.
"This will include our presence in shopping complexes, banks, roads and other areas.
"We are also working on a 12-hour shifts and this will most likely continue until next month. This is all part of efforts to control criminal activities in the North."
SSP Lutunacaucau earlier said officers would not be granted leave until next month because they had to step up patrols and security.
