STAFF members of the Fiji Corrections Services headquarters were rewarded for excellence throughout this year.
One of the prize-getters, the only female who won a prize, was Mereia Lesumaitoga Denesi, who was awarded the Internal Excellence Award for Best Corrections Officer for Class B, Logistics Unit.
"When I received the prize, I was so excited and happy because I didn't expect it," Mrs Denesi said in an interview over the weekend.
"I was particularly happy because out of all the other female officers, I was chosen."
The 25-year-old officer said she only joined the FCS headquarters early last year and to win a prize at her first awards ceremony on Friday night was a feat she was proud of.
"A lot of people supported me throughout and to win this will hopefully make them proud of my efforts too."
"This means that I go on to vie for the major awards ceremony in January next year, which is the Service Excellence Awards and I'll be competing against other FCS divisions for Best Logistician, so that will be a lot more competitive."
Mrs Denesi was one of 13 officers whose 2013 efforts were acknowledged on the night.
