NATAKALA won the Nakelo Rugby Development 7s tournament at the Nakelo District School ground in Tailevu yesterday.

The unknown side from Verata, Tailevu defeated Red Rock 12-7 in the final to pocket the $2000 prizemoney.

The Lote Rasiga-coached Red Rock defeated Ilai Tinai's Wardens 13-7 while Natakala overcame Lomaiviti Barbarians 12-7 in the semi-finals.

Lomaiviti Barbarians had the services of Fiji 7s rep Benito Masilevu and former rep Niumaia Cakacaka.

The plate competition was won by Nausori which overcame Nadroga's Naviti side 29-7.

Tournament director Isaia Taka was impressed with the turnout in the two-day tournament.

He said the presence of national reps boosted the morale of the upcoming players.

Taka said the Fiji 7s team manager Ropate Kauvesi represented Fiji Rugby Union in the tournament.

"We are planning to have more tournaments next year, couple of small ones culminating with a major one at the end of the year.

"Our only problem has been the lack of sponsors and we hope to get some on board to put those plans into action next year."

Fiji Bitter Mokani 7s champs Nasolo Young Boys, Coastal Rental Ratu Filise, Nabua and Police were some top teams in the tournament
