THOSE planning to take non-essential leave will have to reconsider this, says Fiji Police Force chief operations officer ACP Rusiate Tudravu as it focuses on the festive season.
The launch of the festive season's Operation Siganisucu means the force will increase its men and women on the streets to ensure a crime-free festive period.
Operation Siganisucu will also increase police visibility on the roads.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said the force took this decision after considering the anticipated increased movement of people during this time.
"Reinforcement of manpower will be pushed forward from various command centers and divisional headquarters," she said.
"Officers will also be monitoring popular nightspots by conducting consistent checks on restriction of minors into nightclubs".
Operation Siganisucu began yesterday and will continue until January 10, next year.
Ms Naisoro also said snap checks would continue around the country as part of Operation Siganisucu after one man was arrested on Wednesday in possession of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.
She said the arrest was made after a snap check in Suva and the operation involved the canine unit.
