THE Fiji Sugar Corporation received $1.7million for selling electricity from its Labasa mill during the crushing season this year.
FSC executive chairman Abdul Khan said the money would be used on the company's operations.
"We have sold electricity to FEA every year from Labasa mill and this money is used as part of our operations," he said.
"Presently we are supplying electricity only during the cane processing season."
Mr Khan said the company had made a large capital investment to start supplying electricity.
"This new turbine will be commissioned in April and will start working soon after," he said.
"We have made a large capital investment to start supplying electricity all year round from around mid-2014."
Earlier, Mr Khan said the new 10 megawatt turbine would ensure electricity was generated efficiently throughout the year.
"Presently there are two turbines at Labasa mill and neither of these is able to generate electricity outside the cane-processing season," he said.
