FOUR villages from Navitilevu district in Ra were officially handed community disaster management response kits by the Partners in Community Development Fiji.
The group conducted refresher courses for the villages in which community disaster management committees had been established.
The kits included a community disaster plan that outlined detailed information to be undertaken by each community member before, during and after a natural disaster.
PCDF project officer Watisoni Lalanavanua said the villages had been attending workshops throughout the year in preparation for the cyclone season.
"We've been visiting these villages — Navuniivi, Nayavuira, Nasau and Veidrala — to create awareness on natural disaster preparedness and to also assist them in establishing their own community disaster management committees," he said.
"These committees ensure that the whole village responds to weather alerts and cyclone warning and they know what they have to do when the first alert is issued," said Mr Lalanavanua.
