Police monitor farms

THE monitoring process carried out by police officers for dalo farm registration on Taveuni is well in progress, says divisional police commander northern SSP Naulumatua Lutunacaucau.

As we enter into the festive season, SSP Lutunacaucau said officers on the island had made it their business to monitor all farms in an effort to control dalo theft in the area.

SSP Lutunacaucau's comments followed concerns raised by some dalo farmers on how their crops were usually stolen during this time of the year.

"We have continued to monitor the registration of dalo farmers and the particulars of their farms and this is progressing well," he said.

Two months ago, a meeting of stakeholders was conducted where agents, farmers and buyers were urged to keep registers to record all information about their farm transactions.

"Important information such as the name of the dalo agents and buyers, their vehicle number, weight, time of transportation and dalo prices are to be noted down properly in the register. The register is inspected by the police or by the office of district officer Taveuni at any time."

He said officers would increase their visibility at shopping complexes, banks, roads and other rural and peri-urban areas this season to ensure a crime-free period.
