THE Shalen Lal-coached Fiji West Black side hammered Harbord FC 10-1 to edge closer to the Ultimate Fiji Soccer Cup boys under-17 final.
The Fiji West Black team laced with national U17 reps was on fire at the National Football Academy ground in Ba yesterday raking up a big score line.
Fiji West Black had players such as Iosefo Verevou, Jonetani Buksh, Raees Rafiq, Joseva Koroi and Ratu Yavala all of whom were part of the Fiji team which participated in the Oceania U17 playoffs in Vanuatu this April.
The side scored within the first five minutes but the visitors equalised immediately.
Rewa striker Verevou was a thorn for Harbord defence. Fiji West Black led 3-1 at halftime.
It was all Fiji West Black in the second spell raking up six more goals.
Lal was happy with the performance of his boys after the first round game against International Football Group New South Wales which they won by a goal on Monday.
He said they had very limited preparation time.
"The boys stepped up from the first match playing really well," the former Ba rep said.
"We had only two days to prepare which is very short time for a tournament. Luckily most of the players had been training individually.
"Some of the boys in the team are under the age of 15 years.
"They have the potential to make the Fiji U17 squad. Our aim is to reach the final and with the big win we have inched closer."
In another U17 match, International Football Group New South Wales beat Fiji West Blue 1-0.
On Monday Fiji West Blue beat Harbord 4-0.
In the final round robin games tomorrow, (Thursday) Fiji West Black will play Fiji West Blue at the National Football Academy ground while International Football Group New South Wales will face Harbord at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
