THE Papua New Guinea Government says its relation with Fiji will not be affected following Fiji's refusal to recognise the appointment of PNG High Commissioner to Fiji Peter Eafeare as Dean of the Diplomatic Corps.
Spokesperson for the PNG Prime Minister Daniel Korimbao confirmed to this newspaper that Mr Eafeare was in PNG for consultations with the foreign ministry.
"Foreign Minister Rimbink Pato had briefed the PM on the reasons behind the recall for consultations," Mr Korimbao said.
"The PM is satisfied the process being administered by Minister Pato is in accordance with the normal protocol and process when such matter arises.
"This matter will not affect relations between the two countries."
Mr Korimbao couldn't reveal though as to what reasons the Fiji Government gave for the refusal of Mr Eafeare as Dean of the Diplomatic Corps.
He added that Mr Eafeare was not been replaced as PNG's High Commissioner to Fiji.
"It is your government that asked that we forego the deanship so you should ask them the reasons.
"Mr Eafeare has only been recalled for consultations at this stage."
