ORGANISERS of the Gaunavou 7s tournament are hoping some sponsors will come forward to back their event at the Ba Market grounds this Saturday.
A total of 24 teams will feature in the inaugural event which is being used as a fundraiser. Tournament organiser Timoci Driu said they were trying to raise money to buy new jerseys for their club team.
"We are a new club. The team has some farmers and some workers from the sugar mill and some from other places and so we have organised this tournament to raise funds," Driu said. He said they wanted to host the event every year but would need the support of a sponsor.
"This could become an annual tournament if we have the backing of a sponsor.
"The main sponsors would get the naming rights and also they could provide some incentives for the participating teams."
Driu said they would like to give players of Ba a chance to showcase their talent.
"We have produced national reps like Pio Tuwai and Josua Tuisova and I know there is heaps of talent here in Ba."
