WITH one round to left to play in the National Chess Championship today, Candidate Master Calvin Prasad is sure of winning the overall title.
Prasad has 6.5 points out of seven and his closest opponent CM Manoj Kumar has five points from seven matches.
Fiji Chess Federation president Dr Virgilio de Asa said despite the points table, they would continue with the final round of the JR White-sponsored tournament at the Fiji Olympic House in Suva.
Prasad won both his games yesterday when he beat Goru Arvind in the morning and Menash Fareed in the afternoon.
In other games yesterday, Ronald Terubea beat Ashish Gautam, Keez Terubea beat Menash and Kumar beat Noel Adricula.
Dr de Asa said Prasad would play Gautam in the final round today.
"He (Prasad) is so far ahead on the points table so whatever the outcome of the match, he will win the title and become the national champion," he said.
"This is because Manoj is on five points and John Caldera is on 4.5 points out of seven matches and they won't be able to catchup even if they win today."
