A CLOUD of sorrow hovers above Tavua Village as they prepare to farewell their leader, the late Tui Tavua, Ratu Jale Waisale Kuwe Ratu, who passed away late last month.

"He was a man of the people," said village mata ni vanua Apisalome Ulusova.

"He cared for everyone, not just the people of Tavua Village," Mr Ulusova said.

"He cared for all the races here in Tavua and ensured they were taken care of."

Mr Ulusova said the people of Tavua had suffered a great loss.

"He had such big plans for Tavua Village.

"He had plans to upgrade the village and implement projects that would benefit Tavua greatly."

He said the late chief had travelled to China recently.

"He was a great leader, hardworking, he cared about his people and he gave his all to serve his people. He was a man of the people."

Apart from his role as the Tui Tavua, Ratu Jale was also the chairman of the Ba Provincial Council.

He is survived by his wife Adi Filomena Ratu and four children.
