THE 23-year-old woman who allegedly abandoned her newborn baby in a bush at Tabia, Labasa last week, will be interviewed and charged once released from hospital.
Divisional police commander northern SSP Naulumatua Lutunacaucau yesterday said the woman and her baby were still recovering in hospital.
"The baby is doing fine and so is his mother," he said.
"Police officers are exchanging shifts and are guarding the woman.
"We will interview and charge her later once she is discharged from hospital."
It was earlier reported that the baby was abandoned at Vunivacea last Tuesday and was discovered by a passer-by two days later.
SSP Lutunacaucau said the baby was lying on his stomach and bitten by mongoose. He said the infant sustained injuries and cuts from mongoose bites.
