Court acquits man accused of raping niece

Update: 12:23PM THE case of a 31-year-old man accused of raping his niece has been terminated.

High Court judge Justice Janaka Bandara overturned the guilty opinions of the three trial assessors and acquitted the man accordingly.

 

The man was all smiles as he walked out of the courtroom this morning with his Legal Aid Lawyer Lavenia Raisua.

The facts of the prosecutions case was that on August 30, 2011 the man allegedly raped his 16-year-old niece whom he was having a relationship with.

The matter came to light after the girl's teacher suspected her to be pregnant.
