Bryant return

LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant is poised to return to NBA action on Sunday for the first time since tearing his left Achilles tendon in April. Bryant's return was announced with suitable drama in a video posted on his Facebook page.

Japan title

TOKYO - Sanfrecce Hiroshima retained their J-League title with a 2-0 win over Kashima Antlers on Saturday as league leaders Yokohama Marinos blew their chance on the final day of the season. Naoki Ishihara scored either side of halftime to seal Sanfrecce's win away to Antlers, who began the day with a slim mathematical chance of claiming the title but had striker Yuya Osako sent off.

Course record

THOUSAND OAKS - Tiger Woods matched his own Sherwood Country Club course record on Friday with a 10-under 62 to take the lead in his World Challenge. The world No.1, who started the day four shots off the lead, had 10 birdies and no bogeys for an 11-under total of 133 on the Californian course.

Rockets big win

HOUSTON - Houston's James Harden scored 34 points to lead the Rockets to a convincing 105-83 win over Golden State on Friday to strengthen their hold on second place in the NBA's Southwest Division. Elsewhere, Oklahoma City's dominance of New Orleans continued, as did Portland's over lowly Utah, while Boston jumped Denver and hung on for victory.
