ABOUT 400 people have been employed at the renowned five-star Laucala Island Resort on Vanua Levu.
Out of the figure, 15 are from Dreketi Village on Qamea Island on Taveuni.
Tui Laucala, Ratu Laginikoro Dakuiyau said the world-class resort had not only employed villagers from Qamea but other people from around the country and abroad.
He said developments such as the construction of a jetty and an airport at the resort were a doorway to more employment opportunities for the people.
Ratu Laginikoro said their children who had the heart to work in the hospitality industry were encouraged to study hard because employment opportunities were right at their doorsteps.
He said the resort also employed school dropouts to help them save extra money for further studies.
Ratu Laginikoro said they also sold root crops to the resort.
He was thankful to the resort owner for bringing such a development to the island.
