THE Fiji Rugby Union is ready to "talk" on the possibility of hosting a Fiji Sevens Rugby Series in the near future.
Digicel Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan earlier told Times Sport that he wanted to introduce the series, saying it would be a perfect platform to prepare for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
FRU acting chief executive officer and board member Doctor Berlin Kafoa said they would hold talks with Ryan on his plans to introduce the series.
"We are waiting for Ben to come back. One of the plans he has is to create a local 7s series," Dr Kafoa said.
"We don't want to duplicate another 7s series when we have major tournaments already like Coral Coast 7s, Marist and Nawaka 7s.
"When Ben comes back, we will work on the plan and see which of the major sevens tournaments are part of the circuit and see how that will work out."
Englishman Ryan said the level and intensity of the local competition was "much higher" and they needed to maintain it to ensure consistency in the long run.
"The invitational tournaments in England may have a few good sides, but we have a lot more here," Ryan said in an earlier interview.
"Domestic competition is a strength we need to build upon. I would love to see a Fiji Sevens Series with all the clubs joined up. It will be good for the national team and its progress to Rio."
Meanwhile, the national team returns home on Wednesday.
