ARMY won the BSP Life Sukuna Bowl challenge soccer title at Buckhurst Park in Suva yesterday.
A first half goal from midfielder Iliesa Naqovu was enough to give the Tagi Vonolagi-coached Army side the 1-0 win over Police in a close affair.
Police had some big names in their side such as Ronald Lawrence, Ulaiasi Tamanisau, Inosi Cava, Akeai Uluibau and Kushal Naicker but their experience was not enough to defend the title.
The team was going for their 10th consecutive win but the powerful header from Naqovu midway in the opening spell denied them the feat.
Army team president Kesho Maharaj said his side played well and deserved the win.
"We are pleased with the win. We didn't have any big names in the side but the players gave their all and managed to take the title away from Police."
Army's Richard Nagaiya collected the Man of the Match award following a superb performance in the midfield role.
In the development rugby, Police defeated Army 12-8 while Police also won the Oldies category (rugby) beating Army 11-3.
