TWO navy officers will represent the country in the World Inter Navy Regatta in India next week.
Stewart Ratusivo and Ponipate Tikomaimakogai will be taking part in the five-day competition starting on Tuesday.
The Fiji Yachting Association has been helping the duo with preparations for this prestigious event.
"Our goals are clear, all the hard yards we have put in to training, we are confident to participate to the best of our ability in the games," Ratusivo said in a statement.
Association coach Sulueti Rauqeuqe said they were delighted to provide support and would continue to do so in the future.
"The officers took up the sport without any knowledge of it and within four weeks they were sailing as if they had been sailing for years," Rauqeuqe said.
"They have natural talent and it's great to see the Navy take interest in sailing."
Fiji Yachting Association president Anthony Philp said they were thrilled to have the Fiji Navy join the association in further establishing the sport of sailing in Fiji.
"We welcome more officers to our facilities to learn the sport.
"This will create more competition and in turn produce world class sailors for Fiji. We wish the officers all the best in the competition."
