FOLLOWING the success of the knockout tournament last week, the Vatuwaqa Volleyball Association is hoping for a good start in its 2013/14 season.

The opening round of competition will be played today at the Vatuwaqa Housing courts.

Association official Jone Baleilomaloma said they were pleased with the standard displayed by the teams in the season opening tournament last week Saturday.

Eight men's and three women's teams took part in the tournament which was won by USN (men) and Rylanders (women).

"The men's competition was very competitive as we cannot determine an outright winner from the pool games and teams that qualified from their pools for a semi-final spot had to win straight sets to gain that bonus point," Baleilomaloma said.

"Since this was the start of our weekly competition, this will tense up from this week as we intend to start with our challenge competition against USN (Samabula Youth) to be challenged by Marines team.

Baleilomaloma said there was a lot of interest from the women living in the nearby settlements to joining the association.
