FIJI Fashion Week director Ellen Whippy-Knight has labelled the inaugural Port Moresby Fashion Week (PMFW) last weekend a success.
The one-night affair was a sellout, an indication to Mrs Whippy-Knight that PNG was ready to join the Pacific push for fashion recognition.
"My theory was that PNG, given its diverse and rich traditional culture, would have a wealth of talent when it came to creative design. Like Fijians, the people of PNG are proud of their traditional heritage and this can be translated onto fashion wear," she said.
Mrs Whippy-Knight took her team of nine models and collections from several Fijian designers to showcase at the PMFW.
She said the aim of presenting Fijian and other Pacific designers' work at the PMFW was that their Melanesian counterparts could realise the value of fashion week.
