THE National Federation Party celebrates its golden jubilee today.
A member of the celebration organising committee, Bala Dass, said the NFP was proud to be the oldest political party in the country.
The 50th anniversary celebration will be held in Nadi tonight.
Mr Dass said about 200 people were expected at the celebration dinner.
"Our old members, former parliamentarians and supporters will be present tomorrow (today)," he said.
"We don't have any guest speaker from outside but some senior party members are expected to talk about the party.
"It's a big achievement for the party to celebrate our 50th anniversary.
"We are the only political party to survive for so long."
Mr Dass said although the party had not been represented in Parliament for some time, "as a party we are still there".
He said the party's policies had remained as far as the people were concerned.
Also, he said the party had produced leaders such as A D Patel, Siddiq Koya and Jai Ram Reddy.
Mr Dass said the stage was set for the celebration tonight, adding that all preparations are in place by the organising committee.
