PLANS are in the pipeline to expand Tourism Fiji's reach in the Asian markets.
And part of this move is the consideration for an office in Shanghai, China.
Tourism Fiji CEO Rick Hamilton said this was an ideal market for Fiji as many prominent airlines and countries had set up their offices in Shanghai.
"Obviously, our strategy is to get the right people on the ground," Mr Hamilton said.
"We will be working remotely and through places like Hong Kong."
Speaking at a press conference after the annual Tourism Industry Day at the Sofitel Fiji Resort, Denarau on Tuesday, Mr Hamilton said the Asian markets had enormous potential.
"We want to get our products out to the Chinese markets so that they too can see what Fiji is all about.
"This is an exciting opportunity for us."
National carrier Fiji Airways plays a vital role in marketing Fiji as well.
Attorney-General and Tourism Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the government's $1.8million allocation to Fiji Airways would enable it to explore new routes.
