THE Waica dam in Ba that was closed weeks ago will be opened once officials complete tests to determine its safety level.
Divisional health inspector Rakesh Kumar said the dam had undergone a major upgrade by the Water Authority of Fiji.
"While WAF do their work, we are also conducting our own tests to determine whether the dam can be reopened," he said.
"Apart from this, the situation at Nukuloa has been controlled. There has been no further report of hepatitis A or leptospirosis."
Meanwhile, Nukuloa resident Salesh Lata said she was starting to recover from an hepatitis A infection.
"I'm feeling much better now," said Ms Lata.
Urmila Devi, who also spoke to this newspaper during the peak of the outbreak, also said her condition was improving.
Ba advisory council chairman Viam Pillay said the situation at Nukuloa had improved after the dam was closed.
