THE Fiji Police Force launched its new Duavata community policing initiative at Nayavu in Wainibuka.

Officiating at the launch at the Nayavu District School ground yesterday, Defence Minister Joketani Cokanasiga said the concept of working together was part and parcel of community life in all villages.

"It is the responsibility of everyone in the community to look after one another, especially the disadvantage and the old," Mr Cokanasiga said.

He said the launch of the concept in Wainibuka would encourage the villagers to look after one another and maintain law and order.

"The idea of people working together is not a new concept in the Fijian cultural setting."

The launch was witnessed by hundreds of villagers.

The Duavata community policing initiative is being launched in villages in Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
