IT'S back to basics for the Digicel Fiji 7s as they leave the Dobra 7s win behind to focus on this weekend's Nelson Mandela Bay 7s in South Africa.
After a quick recovery, the team took the field yesterday to iron on its weaknesses and get the players in shape for another exciting battle in the HSBC Sevens World Series.
National 7s coach Ben Ryan says Fiji will be a target in the tournament which starts on Saturday.
"Any team that wins the weekend before is a target team.
"It's a big week for recovery and also getting training right … we need to get that balance right to make sure we are ready for the tournament. So far the balance has been excellent," he told Times Sports.
The team is working into routines and timings to get some decent training in ahead of its opening pool match against Australia at 11.28pm on Saturday.
"Week two tournaments are always tough. Not only do we have the travel but the knocks and niggles from the tournament and the associated fatigue," Ryan told fru.com.
"I think that is one of the reasons winning back to back titles proves so elusive for all the teams.
"For us, we need to go back to getting the basics right in the week building up to the tournament and not get ahead of ourselves."
Fiji's remaining pool matches will be against France and Scotland at 2.34am and 6.14am, respectively, on Sunday.
