Call to beef up security

RESIDENTS of Qila settlement on Taveuni have requested police to beef up security in the area this festive season to discourage dalo and yaqona theft.

The offence has become a continuing activity because most farmers in the area have acres of land with yaqona and dalo which are usually stolen during this period.

Last week, the residents voiced their concerns to the director operations, SSP Tito Elo, during a talanoa session where he assured them of consistent patrols from officers on the island.

Speaking on behalf of the residents, Jitendra Prasad said it was that time of the year when they usually worried about their farms because some people were fond of stealing from them.

He said it would be a relief for them if officers patrolled the area daily to monitor and control the movement of people.

Mr Prasad said they had encountered such problems in the past and it was about time to take action so the hard work and sacrifices in their respective farms were not wasted.
