IT was a moment of true pride for the father of 13-year-old Peni Sogia when the teenager scooped the dux prize and best all-round award during the Davuilevu Methodist Primary School prize-giving last week.
The family was delighted with the boy's performance considering the hardships they experienced.
The teen's father, Osea Qeleveiwaku, said the family found it difficult to make school payments because he had a casual job.
He explained that his wife and their five young children were relocated from Laqere to Davuilevu in 2005 and had since faced a number of constraints.
Faced with an uncertain future that made their lives a lot harder, Mr Qeleveiwaku said watching his eldest child receive two of the biggest prizes meant new-found hope for their family.
He told The Fiji Times the family often prayed about education and this was a sign that God was listening to their prayers.
