AS part of continuing efforts to raise funds towards the $1.5million upgrade for the Sigatoka District Hospital's Maternity Ward, the Coral Coast Chapter of the Fiji Hotels and Tourism Association held its annual Sigatoka District Hospital charity golf day on Sunday.

Twenty four teams from Fiji's corporate fraternity played in a combined two ball Ambrose competition at the Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course.

The tournament which had 88 golfers participating raised $57,000.

Outrigger on the Lagoon Fiji general manager and chairman of the Coral Coast Hotel Association Peter Hopgood said more than $20,000 in prizes were given by local business houses with most resorts giving five night accommodation packages.

"We have been overwhelmed with the response by all major corporations in Fiji and we'd like to acknowledge the wonderful sponsorship from Tappoo, Jack's of Fiji, Prouds and Vodafone whose support is helping us raise funds for the Sigatoka District Hospital maternity ward", Mr. Hopgood said.

"One of the best things about a tournament like this is not only do we get the opportunity to play entertaining golf with our business colleagues but it's all for a good cause."

Groundwork for the $1.5 million redevelopment of the maternity ward at the Sigatoka District Hospital has already started and is expected to be completed next year.
