LOCAL designer Bayvick Lawrance is making a name for himself in the fashion world after having his work showcased on a winning contestant at an international pageant in Thailand.

The 20-year-old designed some items of clothing for the wardrobe of the newly-crowned Face of Beauty International 2013, Miss Tonga Diamond Langi.

The pageant was held at Pattaya Colosseum Show in Pattaya, Thailand on Monday.

"I met Diamond Langi at church since we both attend the same church. It was here that I found out she was a model," he said from Sydney, Australia yesterday.

Lawrance, who is from Lomanikoro in Bau, said Ms Langi was born in the US, raised in New Zealand and lived in Sydney with her family. He said Ms Langi's achievements made her family and his label, Bayvick Designs, proud.

"She loves how I bring Pacific art to life as far as fashion is concerned," he said.

Ms Langi was the top pick from 38 other contestants around the world who competed for the title during the third edition of the pageant. Miss Bangladesh was the first runner-up followed by Miss China, Miss Thailand and Miss Namibia.
