THE Nadi Volleyball Association is putting more emphasis on its weekly challenge matches in a bid to generate more interest in the club competition.
A lucrative prize purse has been put up for the winner of the weekly challenges.
Nadi Volleyball Association secretary Anasa Qio said the number of challenge matches had increased each week.
He said Neighbours and Nomads were the teams to beat in the competition.
"Neighbours have been winning the women's title for the past five weeks," Qio said.
"There are cash prizes for the winners. This is a motivating factor for the teams to come prepared.
"Nomads are the title holders in the men's division. They are the new kids on the block.
"Their players reside in the Waqadra area. They have been winning the challenge title for the past six weeks."
Qio said they had divided their competition into super premier and premier teams.
"The competition is tight," he said.
"This is why we have created the two divisions. There are six teams in the top flight.
"The teams for the two divisions were selected after the knockout games. We will have an automatic promotion-relegation format."
Qio confirmed that their challenge matches will go on until December 14.
"After that we will prepare for the national events," he said.
"In between the Western Rally will be held. The dates are not out yet.
"We want to field a strong squad. There are many young players involved in the sport.
"Our committee which is running for the second year is happy with the progress that we have made so far."
