MARIST retained the Super Premier challenge in the Suva Volleyball Association competition without even breaking a sweat yesterday.
This was after the challenge match was called off because the challengers, Drifters, did not bring their challenge fee.
Games co-ordinator Josaia Raketekete said Drifters now miss their shot at the FBC Super Premier Challenge title.
"Next week, we will have a new challenger," he said.
"After the knockout, we grade the teams and so Cakau will be the next challengers."
This was the first round of weekly competition for the FBC-sponsored association.
"Jammers was the only new team that made their debut in the competition today (yesterday)."
Meanwhile, the women had their season opening knockout tournament yesterday on court three of the LICI Multi-Purpose Courts in Laucala Bay.
"Only Highlanders, Delta and Sharks took part in the knockout competition.
"The other two teams in the competition, Reef and Qauia, had other commitments and did not attend the competition.
"In the final Highlanders beat Delta 3-2 to win the women's knockout."
