THE launch of the Yellow Ribbon Project in Nabouwalu, Bua on Friday has been ranked the best event ever of its kind by the Fiji Corrections Services.
Assistant commissioner of Prisons Superintendent Kameli Vakalevulevuya said this was because of the tremendous support portrayed by the people of Cakaunitabua.
More than 1,000 people turned up to witness the event at Nabouwalu market grounds.
"Since the inception of the project in 2008, I can say that this is the best launch ever because the people in this province are so supportive.
"They have come from all over the province just to show their support to the project," he said.
"The set-up and atmosphere really shows unity and togetherness. Compared to the project launch in other parts of the country over the past five years, this is the most outstanding one.
"I would also like to thank the corrections officers here in Vanua Levu, especially those in Labasa and their spouses for all their tireless efforts in making this event a successful one."
Mr Vakalevulevuya said the support from the corrections family contributed to the success of the event.
"I also thank the people of Bua for believing in the project and I hope they will learn to forgive and accept their children in prison back into the society."
The Corrections Services provided lunch, refreshments and transportation to those who attended the launch.
