ABOUT 1000 people gathered at the Nabouwalu market ground to witness the launch of the Yellow Ribbon Project in Bua yesterday.
A march led by the Nabala Secondary School marching band proceeded from the Nabouwalu government station to the ground before the event's opening.
Chief guest and Tui Vuya Ratu Amenatave Rabona said this was a significant event for the people of Bua in terms of accepting former offenders back into the community.
Ratu Amenatave said it was important for the people of Cakaunitabua to understand the meaning of the project in order to accept their loved ones back into society with forgiveness.
Ratu Amenatave added that a second chance was needed by those released from corrections facilities.
He said the corrections service had done its part in looking after and rehabilitating inmates and once they were released the onus was on members of the public to continue the trend.
The day's event also featured an oratory contest and entertainment.
