RA has confirmed its participation in the Regional Women's 7s tournament that will be played tomorrow in Suva.
Fiji Women's Rugby Union (FWRU) president Paulini Tamatasasa said they made the confirmation earlier this week.
"Teams from Tailevu, Bua, Macuata, Naitasiri, three teams from Lautoka and five from Suva had confirmed their participation for the tournament," she said.
"I don't think Kadavu will participate but teams from the five clubs from Suva will be allocated the remaining two spots in the tournament that will be played at the Cathedral Secondary School grounds."
She said they would use the tournament to gauge where the weaknesses lie and work on organising more tournaments for the women in the country.
"There is interest there but not enough competition for teams outside Suva. So we are going to host one now and see where the teams are coming from and then we will take the tournament to these communities.
"We are thinking of having a tournament every month or once in two months but the interest from the women will determine it."
Tamatasasa said Fiji should learn from their Australian and New Zealand counterparts.
"They have a regular women's 7s and 15s competition because their parent body and their district and provincial unions are supporting the women.
"If we were to do the same here the sport would grow and more and more women would come to play.
"New Zealand is the World Champions and the Fijiana team beat them in the semi-final of the Oceania 7s in Noosa, Australia earlier this month.
"We lost to Australia in a close final but imagine if we had more support from our provincial unions and parent body, we can become a genuine threat to Australia and New Zealand and we also can host regional women's competitions here in Fiji."
