ATHLETICS Fiji official Benedito Qumi is in Seoul, Korea attending an IAAF CECS Level 1 Coaches Course from October 28 until Sunday. It will be followed by a High Performance Coaching (US) Course from Monday until November 22. The courses are hosted by the Korean Association of Athletics Federation. He is one of the 18 overseas coaches attending with 10 from Korea.
THE Kinoya Volleyball Association will host a Diwali tournament on Monday. 11 men's team and five women's teams will compete in the tournament at the Savai courts in Kinoya. Association treasurer Timoci Buasara said the tournament would be used to gauge their players' level of fitness. "We will use it to try and put together a team for the Vulaca Championships," he said.
THE national under-20 team will compete in the Fiji Sun/GP Batteries National Football League that begins on November 10. However, they will not accumulate any points from their games. They will use the competition to get some game time and experience for their young players. This move is also expected to test the eight districts that will participate in the league competition.
THE second semi-final and the final of the Suva Secondary Schools Girls Cricket tournament has been postponed to give time for the students to complete their exams. Cricket Fiji said the recent rainy weather experienced in Suva led to constant rescheduling of matches, they had decided it would be best for the girls to focus on their studies. "Hopefully, the weather will be more conducive to cricket in a few week's time," said Cricket Fiji media officer Laura Macintosh.
