THE Western Bowling Association's Islands Electric-sponsored Pennants Championship has been expanded with the inclusion of the women's teams for the first time.
Four women's teams participated in the event at the Lautoka Bowling Club last week.
Western Bowling Association secretary Santok Singh said the sponsors had decided to include the women bowlers to help maintain the interest and also help in the development of the sport.
Singh said the women's winner would walk away with $300 prizemoney and gold medals.
"The runner-up will get $200 and silver medals," Singh said.
"There were close battles in the first round last week. There wasn't a clear winner with all the teams winning and losing a game each.
"In the men's division Rakiraki has been ruled out after the side failed to compete for the third successive round.
"Rakiraki was supposed to host the next round but it will now be held in Nadi on November 10," Singh said.
Lautoka, Vatukoula, Sheraton and Nadi are part of the women's division. The men's winning team will receive $700, a trophy and gold medals.
