THE $100,000 refurbishment to the Ba branch of the Fiji Red Cross Society will not only give volunteers and management a better working environment, but will also allow people to get better access to its service in times of disaster.
The centre was in need of renovation and according to branch president Vinod Patel, the volunteers needed a new atmosphere to work in.
"Ba was the first Red Cross branch in Fiji," Mr Patel said, adding that it was built more than 20 years ago. When I took over the presidency, I had the dream of having this refurbishment. For this to happen, we needed the generosity of the nation."
Incidentally, he said the directors of Vinod Patel and Company Limited decided to provide the funds for this cause.
"Being a director, I decided to channel this towards the renovations of the Ba branch."
He said they were successful in getting support from the community as well.
The renovated branch was officially opened by President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau who congratulated everyone involved in the project.
