FIJI Police Force director human resources Senior Superintendent of Police Itendra Nair has been appointed as United Nations Police (UNPOL) chief of staff.
SSP Nair will be based in Sudan.
He is expected to leave the country for his new appointment today.
While his family will be here in Fiji celebrating Diwali in style, the Ba man said this year's celebration would be different as he would take up his new job.
"This is a historic moment for the Fiji Police Force as all other appointments in the past were all at tactical level.
"This post reports directly to the Commissioner of the UN Police in South Sudan," said SSP Nair.
He said his new job involved taking care of UNPOL's human resources department, training, audit and discipline of UN Police in South Sudan.
SSP Nair has served in Cambodia in 1993, North Sudan in 2006, and in Darfur in 2008.
