THE trial of a man accused of raping a 46-year-old woman while she was walking towards the bus stop at Laqere continued before High Court judge Justice Prabaharan Kumararatnam yesterday.
The court heard that the man was taken to the CWM Hospital to be medically examined after he was allegedly assaulted by his uncle.
The man, who was 20 years old at the time of the offence, was escorted to the hospital with visible injuries to his lower lip.
Doctor Osea Volavola gave evidence yesterday, stating that he noticed the injuries were healing.
But he said the injuries were consistent with the accused person's story of being assaulted.
The man stands trial for a rape charge which he is alleged to have committed near a settlement in Laqere on February 20, 2011.
The man allegedly assaulted the complainant before committing the alleged offence.
The court heard that the complainant managed to identify the accused in an identification parade that included eight other males.
The complainant also picked out the accused person's photo when she was presented with photographs. The trial continues today.
