Update: 5:15PM WITH Diwali celebrations well under way, the police are calling on members of the public to be mindful of the noise levels during the festive season, particularly when lighting fireworks late in the evening.
Police chief of operations ACP Rusiate Tudravu said they received numerous complaints from members of the public regarding undue noise caused by some people lighting fireworks late at night.
ACP Tudravu said police officers would be out in numbers to ensure celebrants adhere to the given timeframe for using fireworks.
Fireworks should only be used from 5pm to 10pm before Diwali and 5pm to 12pm on Diwali day.
Diwali will be celebrated this Sunday.
