THE LTA has embarked on a survey to determine how safe public service vehicles are.
CEO Naisa Tuinaceva said the survey would determine whether there were vehicles running illegally and if members of the public were being provided sufficient service.
Mr Tuinaceva said during the week-long program, they would be checking PSVs on their safety compliance.
"What basically we're trying to do is putting basic emphasis on public transport, the importance whereby we are trying to promote the importance of public transport by telling them to take advantage of public transport available in Fiji and at the same time, we are encouraging public to use public transport rather than using illegal transportation."
Mr Tuinaceva said through the survey, they would also ascertain the sufficiency of the public transport, especially with the bus services.
"These bus fire reports from last few months have really been affecting public transport and LTA."
He said the authority would also station special checks on PSVs.
