CONCERNS were raised at the Tailevu Provincial Council yesterday as to why it was taking long for the expansion of the Nausori Airport to start.
Roko tui Tailevu Semi Saukawa said council members were satisfied with the explanation by the ITaukei Land Trust Board general manager Alipate Qetaki.
"Mr Qetaki thoroughly explained issues and we have a fair idea where things are at the moment and moving forward," Mr Saukawa said.
"Airports Fiji Limited is prolonging the leasing and arrangement and subdivision and we hope to get AFL to explain to the council on what we can do in moving forward."
Some districts close to the airport such as Nakelo and Bau have been proactive in sub-dividing their land and doing tourism projects as they anticipate the economic impact of Nausori being the second international airport in the country.
According to the TLTB's newsletter in August, AFL had made changes to the amount of land needed for the development to 91 acres.
The mataqali of Maraki, Marakilevu, Vunilolo, Uciwai, Vunisinu and Nauwe will give 61 acres of their mataqali land for the project.
