POLICE are calling on members of the public, especially those organising special functions, to look after their guests well and ensure they reach their homes safely.
The call follows an increase in the number of fatal accidents on Vanua Levu recently where pedestrians were discovered dead on roads.
Fiji Police Force director traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra yesterday said it was only proper to ensure guests were safely transported to their homes after such functions.
"Pay extra attention to those invitees who have no transport to take them home. To those families or friends hosting parties or other special occasions, make sure that guests have a safe and convenient transport to take them home," he said.
"We have already witnessed three or four fatal accidents in the North lately and we don't want this number to increase further.
"We are calling on the public, especially village headmen, to play an active role and ensure everyone returns home safely."
