AS the festive season approaches, traffic officers in the North will make it their business to monitor all road intersections in an effort to control traffic offences.
Director traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra, who was in Labasa yesterday, said this was the busiest period of the year when accidents were bound to happen.
"This is for the best interest of the community and as far as the Land Transport Act and the police act are concerned, we will control the traffic," he said.
"We have been receiving complaints against pedestrians carelessly crossing the roads. In regards to charging pedestrians for jaywalking, we are working on some technical issues that needs to be ironed out but at the moment, we are continuously creating awareness all over Fiji.
He said the management of traffic infringement cases in the North were satisfactory.
"And now with the launch of operation SOAR, our officers will be visible on the road today."
